Dr. Yoon has over 20 years of experience in materials research and development. As a technical staff in Chemical, Biological, and Nanoscale Technologies group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory for over ten years, Dr. Yoon conducted research in various technical fields such as photonics, MEMS, and nanolithography. His project involvement included MEMS micro-turbine electrostatic generator, Ge waveguide-integrated detectors, silicon photonics components for the DARPA EPIC (Electronic and Photonic Integrated Circuits) program, NbN superconducting nanowire single photon detectors for free-space laser communications, and many others. NbN superconducting photon detectors were installed into the ground terminals for the NASA Lunar Laser Communication Demonstration carried out in 2013 that set the record for download and upload speed. He also served on DARPA Red Team as the energy expert evaluating energy generation and storage technologies. At Optowares, he's leading the overall effort of the technical research and development as well as managing the commercial products.
Dr. Yoon received Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and Ph.D. in Electronic Materials from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA.
